Luna Wolves WIP 4

I have been... well, I like to call it "painting" but "randomly putting thick coloured liquid on little space men" might be a better term... a bit this evening.

I have whacked some battle damage on a few bits and bobs...

And the below is the result.

I have 4 of these puppies for my army :)

Some more dudes.

C&C appreciated.

Luna Wolves WIP 3

A comparison of the 3 model "types" of painting so far.

Top: Sarge as above with another coat or 2 of white

Left: Completed Devestator with battle scratching

Right: Clean, yet to be battle damaged Tactical Marine

I need to re-yellow up the sarge for the dust/grime look, and then battle damage him to see how it all come up.
For the record, he was undercoated in White Gesso/Water 30-50/70-50 (ish)

Luna Wolves WIP 2

Been working on my next batch of marines

Haven't got the white as well covered as last time, which you can see in these pics, but one the weathering is complete it should be fine - I hope.

I did however have a win with the banner on this sarge.

I have to still black line the fist and probably do another white touch up around places.

Thoughts?

Luna Wolves WIP

This will be the start of a few posts in a row - me throwing up WIP posts of my Luna Wolves and the repaint they are going through.

A few of the models completed/WIP

The right 3 guys have NMM shoulder pad trims, Horus doesn't, the termie has a bit, an the banner sarge has NMM banner/bits but my standard from colour.

To compare models with and without NMM pads:

More Luna Wolves - AOBR dread.

So amongst the ruins of everything, I had been slowly putting paint on more models.

The primary colours on these are white (duh) and charadon granite for the dark contrast. It keeps everything a little warmer, which is nice.

More Luna Wolves

So I have embarked on painting these white bad boys, and I have 2 test models left to do.
Of course, I have to finish the Captain as well :)

Before I get sidetracked, thanks to Warpaintguy for the stylish blogger vote, and I will get to that response in time :) I have to work out a few things before I do my big post.
Anyway, instead of doing that post, I was painting.
Some more pics beloooooww.

Luna Wolves AoBR Captain

I am trying out my hand at ... well ... painting well instead of vomiting on minis.
Here is the prototype for my marine repaint - Luna Wolves Captain Fester von Festerson (name may not be Warhammer canon).

I intend to do decent photos soon, this was a 3 minute this-morning job.

Some touchups, shoulder pad embellishments and a base TBC.

If I think its worth the effort will be entered into painting comp @ Cowcon - the local RTT.

Personal reminder: you are insane

Wish these were mine, link is here
So I'm slipping on my resolve to paint Howling Griffons... but slipping to Luna Wolves which are, of course, white.

So much easier..

Sigh.

Oh, and my personal note:

These storm shields are awesome, must do this with my Luna Wolves...

Quick word in your ear - Marine Repaint

http://thatguyjames.net
Just a quicky, I have gotten bored with all these green marines.
Time for some more green, Simple Green that is, and a lot of marines in the bath.

As such I have also re-written my army a bit to fit these changes, and allow me to up the anti a little for the new army paint job.

First, list.

HQ
Librarian

Elites
10 Terminators, 2 Cyclone Missile Launchers
Dreadnought (Multimelta)
Dreadnought (Multimelta)

Troops
10 Tactical Marines, Meltagun, Missile Launcher, Rhino
10 Tactical Marines, Meltagun, Missile Launcher, Rhino
10 Tactical Marines, Meltagun, Multimelta, Rhino

Fast Attack
Landspeeder Typhoon (Typhoon Missile Launchers, Heavy Flamer)
Landspeeder Typhoon (Typhoon Missile Launchers, Heavy Flamer)

Heavy Support
Predator, Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Predator, Heavy Bolter Sponsons

41 infantry (30 scoring), 9 vehicles, 1750 points.

Now as for the scheme? Howling Griffons. Something easy to paint.

I have dug out a Terminator, my own AoBR captain (soon to be just a sargeant) and I will be getting a start on finding out just how hard these guys are to paint.

"WIP photos coming?" you might ask... I'd like to think so but who knows.

Some daylight pics of the brood...

As the Warmaster approaches, so does his vanguard....

Bloodletters and the first ASM with custom (read: simple) Jumppacks....

For the Warmaster: Part 1, Bloodletters

The Bloodletters aka BA Scouts are done, apart from:
1. Eyes
2. Tongues
3. Cleanup
4. Varnish (I never varnish, but these babies have seen a few dings already and that scares me)

More pictures after the jump (god I feel like Goatboy!)

I am very happy with the banner effect, which was:
- Dehneb Stone
- Washed with my super-Sons of Horus mix (50% Thraka Green, 50% Asurman Blue)
Then free handed the logo in black!

How to: Pre Heresy Terminator (Justaerin) Shoulder Pad from AoBR Terminators.

D-D-Double posted on 3++ Is the New Black!

So, it's time to look into how I did my shoulderpads, and like all good conversions, simple is awesome is simple.

And end-result can look like the image to the right.

Anyway, here goes nothing.
Pardon the HUGE break in text, but if I don't all the images and instructions wont line up!

Uhh, yeah, thats 1750!

My Marines, in detail.

Bad news, no Battle report
So my wife decided, instead of my playing 40k, she should get Gastro and I would look after my darling rugrat.

So here, Monday, and I'm still looking after the pair of them. The upshot is that I finally pulled my finger out and took some shots of my Marines.

Warning: HUUUUGE images follow.
I know that the paint job is "crappy" and chipped in some places, but the army was a repaint of a repaint of a repaint... when I got it second hand.

Theres a job in the to-do for me to strip and re-do these guys... one day.

New-codex-itis, a few months late

Well, we have spoken about how piss-poor my Marine model collection is.

If you don't, its a collection of old SM army collections from 2nd/3rd ed that have been sold and resold around the are over the last decade. I have finally grabbed them, added to the pile with Black Reach and made a god-aweful mess of an army.

To make up for this, I hat thrown together a possible option for an army based on some key purchases and modelling.

Arvus Lander Conversion

Recently saw on WGAU a guy asking about the 2 Arvus models and if they were any good.

So instead of replying there direct, I thought I would try drive some more traffic (and add searchability) with what I did.

I actually use is regularly in normal games (and tourneys) as a Counts-As Landraider.

It is almost exactly the right size. (about 10mm wider than a regular land raider)

Model quality was excellent overall. I was very happy with it.

I magnetised the weaponry on it for playability and WYSIWYG whingers.

Size sample:

Example of the end product:

I drilled 3 holes in the under-wing and in the chassis and glued magnets in there so the wings are removable.
I also magnetised the entire body (it splits in half for "wrecked" results).
I got Razorback turrets and popped a little 1.5mm magnet in the mounting and wing for the lascannnons and glued the Heavy bolters to the front cockpit window.

Overall, most people love it, and as its for my Pre-Heresy Sons of Horus, I can get away with the fluff too!

My 1750 Sons of Horus for the 2010 Aussie Tournament season.
