Luna Wolves WIP 4
I have been... well, I like to call it "painting" but "randomly putting thick coloured liquid on little space men" might be a better term... a bit this evening.
I have whacked some battle damage on a few bits and bobs...
And the below is the result.
I have 4 of these puppies for my army :)
The finished banner Sarge
A dude.
Some more dudes.
A dude, and the other banner Sarge.
C&C appreciated.

Luna Wolves WIP 3
A comparison of the 3 model "types" of painting so far.
Top: Sarge as above with another coat or 2 of white
Left: Completed Devestator with battle scratching
Right: Clean, yet to be battle damaged Tactical Marine
I need to re-yellow up the sarge for the dust/grime look, and then battle damage him to see how it all come up.
For the record, he was undercoated in White Gesso/Water 30-50/70-50 (ish)

Luna Wolves WIP 2
Been working on my next batch of marines
Haven't got the white as well covered as last time, which you can see in these pics, but one the weathering is complete it should be fine - I hope.
I did however have a win with the banner on this sarge.
I have to still black line the fist and probably do another white touch up around places.
Thoughts?

This will be the start of a few posts in a row - me throwing up WIP posts of my Luna Wolves and the repaint they are going through.
A few of the models completed/WIP
The right 3 guys have NMM shoulder pad trims, Horus doesn't, the termie has a bit, an the banner sarge has NMM banner/bits but my standard from colour.
To compare models with and without NMM pads:

WIP Terminator
Just a quicky, a WIP Terminator repaint for your perusal :)
White Gesso basecoat, Charadon Granite base, highlights with Fortress Grey, heavy black wash.
Then the "gold" is beastial brown, snakebite leather and dwarf flesh (maybe, the label is covered in boltgun metal).

DIY Stormshield test
So I put my daughter to bed at 8.20, she started coughing at 8.40 and I took her into our bedroom 45 minutes later.
So much for a good hobby night - or so I thought...
I am chasing some C&C on the demo storm shield for my possible Lone Wolf for my Loganwing.
Thoughts?
I know I need to do some detail to the back of the hand area, but apart from that?
Size OK? Style OK?
All I have done is shave down a Stormbolter hand and cut the shape from plasticard. I am thinking it might need some riveting around the edges, but I don't want it feeling too Orky in the same thought...
Oh, and to the other fathers out there - how do you manage Hobby Time with 2 rugrats. One kid I could do, but DS (dear son for those not in the know) has thrown a huge spanner in the works. I don't even have time to glue models together! Tonight was the first night in 4 weeks I managed to get something done - and even then it was a fight. Gah!

List ideas - Space Wolves?
![]() |
| Dave Taylor's Horus (not mine!) |
So SneakyDan came around to meet little fester Jnr the other day and suprisingly, we were talking shop (aka 40k).
He suggested, instead of buggering around with the BA / C:SM lists I have been working on (which are basically mech marines + 10 shooty-nators), I should instead consider looking into Space Wolves.
Now, I have been avoiding Wolves like the plague, simply because they are still the favour of the month, and seen (here in comp-land), as the worst thing since sliced Lash Princes.
So anyway, he talks me into looking at Logan Grumblebum or whatever his name is, and given the slant I have towards the Luna Wolves / Sons of Horus, he probably is the best Horus matchup in the game right now.
Sigh.

I had a Tournament!
Hi lads and ladettes,
Long time no see. And well, will be longer again until the next time given that I have just welcomed fester Jnr into this world (that's #2 for those who are counting) and I have all but been stopped playing 40k until 2012. Joy!
Anyway, onto the tournament.
The last weekend of June was the local RTT - Cowcon.
I turned up with the Cursed Ork Army of Doom (aka MVB/Archies/The Ork build). More on the curse later.
Knowing this tournament was a comp'd event, and knowing that for this list to place I had to major win 5/5 games, I had my game face on, big time. The event was also comp seeded, meaning that the first round you played against another player with the similar comp score as you. I knew I was just about the toughest list there, so it was going to be rough.
Game 1: Razor Wolves.
Joy of joy. I drew the lowest comp army there. Razor wolves with long fangs. Luckily, the guy didnt have too much experience with them, and I pushed across the table with ease, and all but tabled him.
Thankfully, I drew a high KP army on the KP mission. Phew.
Game 2: Blood Angels
A hybrid style force that I had actually beat (this exact army and player) at the previous RTT I attended.
Mission was "Milk the Cows", you get one token for each objective you control at the end of your turn. Win conditions are decided by the margin. Once again, major victory.
Highlight of the game for me: He brings a squad of jumpers and surrounds a trukk. He then Wrecks it, Kareen result is the "Explode" equivalent. He loses 2 guys, deliberately takes 2 plebs and breaks coherency, then fails the leadership test and flees. Did you know that you cannot rally if you are not in coherency, and that by the letter of the law, you cannot move in any way but straight back (unless you are blocked of course), even on a run move, to get back into coherency. That basicall won me the game as his nerve was then broken.
Game 3: Thousand Sons.
No, not counts as, legit 1000 sons from C:CSM.
Mission: Escape Capsule. End of Game turn 2/3, a capsule falls from the sky (random location in the middle of the board), only objective. Win margin based on VP's of troops on the objective.
He saw my army, (he and I are good mates regardless), shook my hand and said "I have no chance". I simply said that I had to deal with his Daemon Prince and Greater Daemon, and if I couldn't he won. Those daemons ate all 9 kans, 2 squads of boys and everything else I could find, just to keep them off the only objective.
Game 4: Orks
Another local player, a good tourney player, who I hadn't to this point played. I really was concerned with his list, as I tend to lose against other Ork players.
5 Objectives as per NOVA placing. Major Victory to me again, only after I managed a last turn charge to pull him off one of his two objectives.
Game 5: Footdar
That's right ladies, top table, last game, footdar.
Mission, Spearhead, KP. I knew I had no chance in this mission. I had 22 KP to his 12. He outranged me, out gunned me, and I had basically nothing that could deal with his Wraithlords or his Avatar. Sigh.
Result, massacre defeat.
Turn 1 he took 4 KP off me. This pretty much summed up the game for me. Anything he shot at died in a ball of flame, and no kareen results went my way. Apart from that, yeah, I made a few mistakes, and they hurt. Killa Kans in terrain (all 3 squads) moved 9 inches over 3 turns, running each turn. What can you do when the dice finally fail.
The Curse:
So the curse, I hear you say?
This list has lost only 3 games across 3 tournaments. Each time, it lost to the eventual tourney winner. This list is cursed to be always beaten by the eventual winner.
Regardless, a great time was had by all, and I got knocked from 1st overall at the start of Game 5, to 7th overall, and not even best general (by a long margin).

More Luna Wolves - AOBR dread.
So amongst the ruins of everything, I had been slowly putting paint on more models.
The primary colours on these are white (duh) and charadon granite for the dark contrast. It keeps everything a little warmer, which is nice.

Open Letter to GW
To Games Workshop,
Why? No seriously, why? I'm sure the excuse of cutting off Australasia and other countries (Canada, India, Korea, South American countries, etc.) to benefit the independent and GW store sales in Australia sounded good but unless you cut the prices here to not be a ridiculous 200% higher price than overseas, it's not going to happen. Let's look at this logically. You've stopped us from buying from stores like Maelstrom and Wayland with an embargo agreement in your Terms and Conditions (remember globalisation? how's that going btw?). Does this mean we are going to now buy at RRP in Australia or other countries? No.

More Luna Wolves
Of course, I have to finish the Captain as well :)
Before I get sidetracked, thanks to Warpaintguy for the stylish blogger vote, and I will get to that response in time :) I have to work out a few things before I do my big post.
Anyway, instead of doing that post, I was painting.

Luna Wolves AoBR Captain
Here is the prototype for my marine repaint - Luna Wolves Captain Fester von Festerson (name may not be Warhammer canon).
I intend to do decent photos soon, this was a 3 minute this-morning job.
Some touchups, shoulder pad embellishments and a base TBC.
If I think its worth the effort will be entered into painting comp @ Cowcon - the local RTT.

Quick word in your ear - Marine Repaint
Time for some more green, Simple Green that is, and a lot of marines in the bath.
As such I have also re-written my army a bit to fit these changes, and allow me to up the anti a little for the new army paint job.
First, list.
HQ
Librarian
Elites
10 Terminators, 2 Cyclone Missile Launchers
Dreadnought (Multimelta)
Dreadnought (Multimelta)
Troops
10 Tactical Marines, Meltagun, Missile Launcher, Rhino

Fast Attack
Landspeeder Typhoon (Typhoon Missile Launchers, Heavy Flamer)
Landspeeder Typhoon (Typhoon Missile Launchers, Heavy Flamer)
Heavy Support
Predator, Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Predator, Heavy Bolter Sponsons
41 infantry (30 scoring), 9 vehicles, 1750 points.
Now as for the scheme? Howling Griffons. Something easy to paint.
I have dug out a Terminator, my own AoBR captain (soon to be just a sargeant) and I will be getting a start on finding out just how hard these guys are to paint.
"WIP photos coming?" you might ask... I'd like to think so but who knows.
