Been busy... painting.

See, when I see a "I've been busy" post usually it can be summed up buy the attached photo...
HOWEVER!
Loyal viewers, this is not the case. For the epic Centurion battle with Pink Bits himself I have to put together a list, and make it good, and probably paint it... So the list was designed, and finalised (todayish).

*note: This is also going to be used in a local comp tourney. They decided to do some Math-based comp, which sums up to: no 3x same squad outside troops, max 2 AV14 vehicles, max 25% points in each FOC, min 40% in troops - to get 10/10 Comp.

HQ Big Mek, KFF

Elites
3 Nobs, 2 Big Choppas, Battlewagon, Deffrolla, Big Shoota
3 Nobs, 2 Big Choppas, Battlewagon, Deffrolla, Big Shoota

Troops
12 Boys, PK Nob, Bosspole, Trukk, Ram
12 Boys, PK Nob, Bosspole, Trukk, Ram
12 Boys, PK Nob, Bosspole, Trukk, Ram
12 Boys, PK Nob, Bosspole, Trukk, Ram
DeffDread, Rokkit, Rokkit
Fast Attack
3 Rokkit Buggies
3 Rokkit Buggies
3 Warbikers, PK Nob
Heavy Support
3 Killa Kans, Grotzookaz
3 Killa Kans, Grotzookaz

But issue!
All my Orks dont form a cohesive look on the board (by design in my more exuberant days) and I will need to pull painting scores to win the event. So, repaint!

...
Infact, bugger that, just get some new AoBR boyz and go from there.

Anyway, back onto the bit you want to see. Based on how well the Challenge Battlewagon turned out, I have decided that is the theme.

Army so far: Battlewagon (needs more work), Buggy, Wagon, Looted Wagon/Trukk, Trukk, Trukk, Trukk

So on the to-do pile by 4th March (3 weeks)
1. Build 5 buggies (including scratchbuild wheels eww).
2. Paint lots
2a. 5 Buggies
2b. 44 boyz
2c. Build 4 PK Nobs and paint them
2d. Paint 6 Nobs Squad Nobs
2e. Build / paint Big Mek
2f. Strip, repaint 6 Kans
2g. Strip/repaint 1 DeffDread
Done!
Oh shit.
2h. Build, paint and learn to use 3 Warbikers

*brain explodes*

Oh, and a display board to carry them around on. I think they wont fit on my current one!

  2. That's a weird comp system, but seems 'ok'. Probably one of the better I've seen at first glance. My Deathwing army only breaks the 25% in each FOC set, and only because my devastators are overcosted.

With 535 points out of my 2000 point list in Heavy Support, and only 2 of my 3 devastator squads being identical, I'd assume a 9/10 in comp?

I'd take those numbers with what is probably my most competitive list. My Loganwing could get full comp under those conditions. With that in mind, comp seems almost meaningless.

I know things are different for me being in the US and all, but I'm still surprised to see these systems in action.

  3. Yeah, "math comp" as we call it went out of fashion a few years back as it turns out to be easily breakable.

For instance - Nob Bikers are 10/10 in this type, as is a generic Razorspam list.

The tourney is running Peer/Panel/Math, with you getting the top 2 scores as your comp (dropping the lowest). A lot of work for the TO, but it means that I can game some comp points. The sum changes to the list is losing 3 Warbuggies to stop me getting -2 for having 3x3.
I'm happy with that, as nobody in my town will have ever seen 19 vehicles put down opposite them, let alone the 22 that 3x3 would have made.

@b.smoove - tell me about it. This weekend's mission, scratchbuild a prototype wheel for the buggies, that i can then replicate 20+ times :(
Oh, and no casting, as I can't afford to resin cast them. I am seriously thinking of ordering lego wheels at this point, or trying a squad of Trakks

  4. @ RayJ: Oh, and no, you wouldnt get 9/10
-2 for having 3xDev squads (by the sounds of it) and -2 for having >25% in a FOC means you get 6/10.

  5. So the penalties are a little harder than I thought. This means that even though my devastators are equipped differently I still get penalized as well? That changes the dynamic a bit I guess. It penalizes my army appropriately, but ends up penalizing other armies disproportionately that need those duplicated units to compete.

I could easily change that 3rd Dev Squad into a 6th Terminator squad and be 10/10, however.

I'm always interested to hear the specifics about these comp systems. No two are ever the same really, and I haven't found one yet that would really hinder me without destroying an older army book.
